Each year students from Chantilly Academy compete in the NASA F.I.R.S.T. (For Inspiration and Recognition in Science and Technology) Robotics Competition. This is a nationally recognized NASA Robotics Competition that encourages and inspires high school students across the nation to design, build, program and test a robot against other teams in a three day tournament. The overall goal of the FIRST program is to generate enthusiasm for science and engineering fields at the high school level, and encourage students to continue their studies at college. Over $10 million in scholarships is available to participants. This will be Chantilly’s eighth year in the competition. In our first year we placed 33rd out of 70 teams, and in the last two years we have advanced to the playoff rounds. In the 2006 season we won the Regional Chairman’s Award and Regional Engineering Inspiration Award. We face teams with many years of experience and lots of corporate sponsorship, and are looking for permanent or 1-year sponsors for the team.
